Amy Macdonald – This Is The Life
July 30, 2007
All of a sudden Scottish singer/songwriter Amy Macdonald is on the radio everywhere. The folk-influenced pop music and attractive, unique vocals strike a chord with listeners all over the world. With her official debut “This Is The Life”, Amy Macdonald seems to have struck gold right away.
Catchy songs that are a great fit for mainstream radio (Mr. Rock & Roll, This Is The Life, Poison Prince, A Wish For Something More) and more sober songs (Youth of Today, Let’s Start A Band, The Road To Home) are the main ingredients of the album. But Macdonald also shows her skills on an impressive anthem like Run.
After awhile the album can become a little bit of a blur as the songs blend into each other quite well, but the songwriting is strong and the unique vocal sound and pleasantness of the songs give the album some kind of dimension that makes it no surprise the reception of the music is good all over the world.
There is definitely room to grow, expand, develop, etc. but Amy Macdonald’s pending breakthrough is a deserved one. “This Is The Life” is an album that is filled with promise. The songs are written and performed with care and feeling and without a doubt this young singer/songwriter will develop herself into one of the leading artists of the genre.
