Josh Ritter – Hello Starling
September 9, 2003
Josh Ritter continues to grow. With a promising debut and an even better sophomore release, the expectations for this new album were really high. But what can I say, the man delivers. On “Hello Starling”, Josh Ritter is in top form. Interesting songs that are performed well and a good album production.
Combining his quality as storyteller and balladeer, Ritter shines on songs like Bright Smile, which opens the album perfectly, the James Taylor-esque You Don’t Make It Easy Babe, the uptempo Man Burning and the soulful California. Ritter strings together good song after good song and after two impressive releases, “Hello Starling” will no doubt mean his real breakthrough.
Over the years, Ritter’s songwriting and confidence have grown to a point where he can be considered as one of the stronger songwriters in today’s music industry. His strong vocal performance and heartfelt performances only add to what is already a great release. “Hello Starling” is without a doubt one of the stronger albums of 2003!
